Civil Rights Defenders program for Human Rights Forum:
Monday November 16
11.00-11.30: Film “Missing Lives: Disappearance and Impunity in the North Caucasus”
The film is produced by the Russian human rights organization, Memorial, in cooperation with the Witness. According to Memorial, several thousand people in the North Caucasus have disappeared over the past 10 years. (In english)
13.00-14.00: With life at stake: a seminar about human rights defenders at risk. (Please note, new time!)
All over the world human rights defenders, who help others without thinking about their own safety, are threatened, harassed and killed. In this seminar we discuss how we (who live in democratic countries) can empower these brave persons to continue their important work and why it is our obligation to do so. What can the outside world do to help?
