Organising a Queer Culture Festival – in cooperation with Coming Out
LGBT persons face daily discrimination in Russia, both in daily life as well as by legislation. We cooperate with the St Petersburg based organisation Coming Out to increase the understanding for LGBT persons. One activity this year is to organise an an international Queer Culture Festival in St Petersburg in September.
Civil Rights Defenders has contributed to the development of the project and will also attend and back-up the festival in various ways.
Coming out was founded in 2008 and is a member of the Russian LGBT Network. Although we have only cooperated with the organisation on one previous occasion, the contacts and interactions are very frequent.
