Improving the respect of human rights standards – in cooperation with Centre for Advanced Legal Studies
Several laws of crucial importance for Serbia in relation to human rights conventions are still not adopted. There is a lack of political will and also a lack of expertise in the field of human rights among duty holders. A majority of the human rights laws that have been introduced were proposed by NGOs and have been adopted after extensive lobby efforts by civil society.
In cooperation with Centre for Advanced Legal Studies we established the Coalition Against Discrimination in 2004 to lobby for an inclusive Law against discrimination. In 2009 it was finally adopted by the Serbian government. We now continue lobbying for other laws in the human rights field, for instance a Law on sensitive data protection and a Law on medical data protection. We are also analysing implementation of laws and giving recommendations on existing and new pieces of legislation.
