2009-08-20: Increasing Violence Against LGBT-people

One of Swedish Helsinki Committee’s partners in Serbia, the Gay Straight Alliance, report a rise in LGBT-related violence in recent weeks.

Despite a promise of full protection the police authorities have not taken effective measures to protect people.

The Pride will be held September 20 and the police has promised full protection during the festival. Two incidents in August raises concerns about increasing violence against LGBT people in the first place, but also about the improper reaction by the police.
