2009-09-21: Belgrade Pride Cancelled
In the last minute the Ministry of Interior in Serbia stopped the Belgrade Pride planned for Sunday Sep 20. On Saturday morning the police suddenly stated that it would not be abel to guarantee security for the participants in the parade if the parade as planned was to be held in the center of Belgrade. This de facto means a ban of Belgrade Pride and that the state of Serbia cannot protect freedom of assembly and freedom of expression for lesbian, gays, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. Read the statement of Civil Rights Defenders submitted to media in Serbia on Saturday.
