Discrimination on Political Grounds in Public Administration

Albania aims at joining the EU, but much remains to be done before that can happen. In cooperation with the Albanian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (AHC) Civil Rights Defenders monitor and assess dismissals of public employees in local and central administration.

International reports have highlighted the need to professionalize and a de-politicize the central and local public administration. In cooperation with the Albanian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (AHC) we monitor and assess dismissals of public employees in local and central administration.

We look into media reports, court decisions and trial hearings related to cases of dismissals. We also monitor the independent bodies (Ombudsman, the Commission for Civil Servants, Trade Unions and courts on different levels) to get a more comprehensive picture and send recommendations to relevant bodies.

Our goal with this cooperation is to reduce the number of individuals in Albania being discriminated based on political grounds.
