Legal clinic supports the most disadvantaged
To improve the rule of law in Albania we provide a legal clinic, in collaboration with the Albanian Helsinki Committee, where we offer free legal aid to arrested, pre-trial detained and convicted persons, Roma and Egyptians. In 2010 approximately 500 complaints and more than 1000 free legal aid services were treated within the legal clinic.
Disadvantaged citizens in Albania are often facing different forms of discrimination by duty holders. They are also subjected to violence, inhuman and degrading treatment and offered poor legal representation in courts.
We monitor trials and conduct lobbying activities to improve the legal reforms in the judicial system and to ensure public access to judicial institutions. We also coordinate efforts within the civil society to make joint statements regarding human rights violations.
