We Urge the Release of Hasan Abazi

Together with our partners we have sent a letter to the President of Serbia and institutions within the EU urging them to immediately release Hasan Abazi.

Hasan Abazi, the president of Kosovo’s Metalworkers Union, was arrested in late March, accused of “crimes against the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia”. Read our statement here. has for the past two weeks been detained in Vranje. His appeal has not been examined although this type of detention shall be reviewed within three days, according to Serbian law. Abazi has not had access to his lawyer.

We are concerned that the arrest is politically motivated and not based on law. We believe that this is a violation of the Criminal Procedure Code and Article 5 and 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
