Four awards at Cannes Lions
Civil Rights Defenders has been awarded a Bronze Lion in the Promo & Activation category and a Silver Lion in the Mobile category for the Natalia Project and also a Silver and a Bronze Lion in the PR category for the Civil Rights Captcha. The organisation was nominated in eight categories in total.

In spring 2013, Civil Rights Defenders in cooperation with RBK, a leading Swedish communications agency, developed the Natalia Project, an alarm system powered by social media. The “Natalia Project,” is named after Natalia Estemirova who was murdered in the North Caucasus in 2009. When triggered, the GSM/GPS-equipped hardware sends an alarm to nearby colleagues and Civil Rights Defenders Stockholm headquarters with time and position data to allow them to react when notified of an assault. The network of people who like or follow nataliaproject.org, will know about an attack within minutes and can create a social media blast.
In October 2012 Civil Rights Defenders and Stockholm based Prime PR launched the Civil Rights Captcha. A Captcha is a test to tell whether a user is human or a computer. Civil Rights Defender’s Captcha is unique in its approach at separating humans from bots, namely by using human emotion. This enables a simpler and more effective way of keeping sites spam free as well as taking a stand for human rights. Since its launch in October 2012, Civil Rights Defender’s Captcha has become world news with more than 400 published articles and tens of thousands tweets. Civil Rights Defender’s Captcha has so far reached over 700 million people across the globe.
