Alarming crackdown on freedom of expression in Ethiopia

The arrests of nine Ethiopian human rights defenders in Addis Ababa on 25 and 26 April is of serious concern. Six of the arrested human rights defenders belong to the bloggers group “Zone9″ and three are independent journalists.

The arrests is part of a broader crackdown on the civil society and on freedom of expression in Ethiopia. Civil Rights Defenders joins the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project (EAHRDP) in their call for immediately release of all the human rights defenders arrested.
