Internship – East and Horn of Africa Department
The internship consists of: Assisting the Program Director in his daily work. The tasks are varied and include writing articles, conducting research and monitoring of regional developments, drafting reports, some administrative work and assisting with the preparation of various activities and events in Sweden and abroad. In the context of our capacity building trainings for human rights defenders, the intern will be involved in planning, logistics and communicating with participants.
Interns at Civil Rights Defenders will be involved in internal workshops on topics within our field, and are encouraged to take part in external events, such as seminars and meetings.
-A genuine interest in human rights and a basic knowledge of Civil Rights Defenders’ work;
-Good knowledge of the East and Horn of Africa region and the state of human rights in the region;
-Enrolled in a university in Sweden or abroad within the last year of a Bachelor degree or at Masters level. Also eligible are applicants who are recent graduates (within 1 year from graduation);
-Preferred degree in law, political science, journalism, human rights or equivalent
-Excellent knowledge of English. Basic Swedish is a requirement; fluency is a strong advantage;
-Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and responsibly;
-Good skills and experience in writing reports, articles and doing research;
-Experience of event planning is an asset.
Please note that this internship is NOT paid. Civil Rights Defenders reimburse only local public transport costs (SL card purchase).
The internship starts Dec/Jan and will run for between three and six months. The exact dates can be negotiated if need be.
