Newsletter No. 1 January-March 2015

In 2013, it was revealed how the police in Skåne had kept an illegal register of the Roma community. In the first newsletter of 2015, you can read about how Civil Rights Defenders is suing the Swedish state and has initiated a lawsuit. This will be an important area of focus for our work in Sweden 2015.

Civil Rights Defenders is expanding our presence around the world. Read about our intensified work in Southeast Asia, where we will provide greater support to human rights defenders in Myanmar, and the Roma program, recently launched in the Western Balkans.

We also welcome Miriam Nordfors, our new Public Relations and Social Media Officer to Civil Rights Defenders and report on the continued repressive legislation trends prevailing in Russia, which has severely undermined civil society and human rights in the country.
