Providing legal assistance with CHRIS Network
The network of Committees for Human Rights in Serbia, CHRIS, consists of six human rights organisations (five since end of 2009) that permanently monitor human and minority rights in their local communities. Together with CHRIS we provide free legal assistance to citizens, as well as free legal aid before the courts to victims of serious human rights violations. Every year we agree on a number of strategic cases for litigation before the courts. The cases concern serious human rights violations like police abuse, torture and discrimination.
We organise thematic workshops which focus on the latest developments and cases before the European Court for Human Rights. In addition, the network organises joint activities to promote international human rights standards among citizens and duty holders.
The network of Committees for Human Rights in Serbia, CHRIS, was established in 1999 with the support of Civil Rights Defenders. Through the years we have been deeply involved in strengthening the network and assisting in their organisational development.News.
