Stop discrimination against human rights defenders

Civil Rights Defenders and several other human rights organizations condemn the prosecution of Belgzim Kamberi, Chairman of the Human Rights Board in Bujanovac in Serbia, and urge the prosecutor to shut down the case.

Kamberi is accused for publishing billboards criticizing Serbia’s Minister for Human and Minority Rights, Milan Markovic, for not recognizing diplomas from Kosovo. The message of the poster was “Markovic receives 10 in the non-recognition of human rights of the citizens of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medve?a.”

Markovic has emphasized in public statements that the procedure should be terminated and that he was not offended by the messages on the billboards. Civil Rights Defenders and several other human rights organizations therefore urge the prosecutor to shut down the case and the authorities to make sure that that citizen’s exercising their freedom of expression should not be prosecuted for discrimination when no crime has been committed.
