Defenders’ Days 2016
On 4 April, Civil Rights Defenders welcomes human rights defenders from all over the world to attend Defenders’ Days – Empowering Human Rights Defenders at Risk. During four days the participants enjoy an extensive conference programme including presentations, panel discussions, several trainings and workshops focusing on human rights.
Defenders’ Days conference offers human rights defenders, many who come from the most repressive regions in the world, the opportunity to network and share their experiences in a safe environment.
“Being here in Stockholm together with colleagues from all over the world who share the same precarious situation is of great importance for the participants. It gives them room to breathe. They can also see that they are not alone, while at the same time opening up to new knowledge and experiences”, said Robert Hårdh, Executive Director at Civil Rights Defenders.
In addition to the approximately 160 participants, who represent 35 countries from four continents, we also invite panellists and trainers from a variety of fields. This year’s programme (LINK) covers a wide range of pressing issues such as digital security, advocacy and fundraising strategies. Furthermore, we have the great pleasure to welcome Michel Forst, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders.
You can find the detailed list of panelist and trainers here.
On 7 April, Civil Rights Defenders extends a warm welcome to representatives of official agencies and civil society organisations as well as to the public and the media. Among several interesting events, this is the time when we announce this year’s winner of the Civil Rights Defender of the Year Award. The price is awarded to one prominent human rights defender who keeps fighting for the rights of others despite risking his or her security on a daily basis.
The open session offers a fantastic opportunity to network and to exchange knowledge with human rights defenders from all over the world. You will also be given the chance to attend panel discussions on issues such as human rights in relation to the global terrorism movement and the relation between mass surveillance and human rights.
We are arranging Defenders’ Days for the fourth time in succession this year. Would you like to participate in the open session and to be present when the Civil Rights Defender of the Year Award is handed out? Stay tuned on defendersdays.org for more information.Categories: Events and News.
