We are looking for a summer intern

During the summer of 2013 (1 June to 31 August), we are seeking an intern to the department for support to human rights defenders at risk and the department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, in Stockholm.

The department for Eastern Europe and Central coordinates and conducts Civil Rights Defenders work in the region, which also includes advocacy and lobbying activities in Sweden. The work consists mainly of developing partnership with local human rights organisations and supporting them in their work.

The department for support to human rights defenders at risk offer various types of support to human rights defenders working in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and South East Asia and East Africa, through statements to authorities and organisations, and in extreme cases even evacuation. We give grants to activists who are in need of concrete actions to improve their security situation and provide training in communication and new media.

As an intern you will help administrating the programs, gather information for statements and news to the website. The intern works closely with the Programme Officers, who are led by the Programme Director. Since a large part of the work is linked to human rights defenders in Russia, we are primarily looking for someone who speaks Russian and has knowledge of the region.

Tasks: Assist Programme Officers and Programme Directors in their daily work. The tasks include such areas as administration, planning and preparation of activities and writing assignments.

The internship is unpaid. Email your resume and a brief description of yourself no later than 5 May to: joanna.kurosz@civilrightsdefenders.org
