Stylist, club profile and artists Rebecca & Fiona’s video director and Visual Director. Tommy X rarely sits still, and under his leadership, the fashion brand ‘ Faggot Apparel ” was recently launched. The profit goes to Civil Rights Defenders work. The T-shirts became a powerful contribution to the debate on the situation of LGBT people in Russia and an immediate sales success and started a buzz .

Tommie X describes himself as a person who thinks politically with the heart, which means he doesn’t get involved in political issues of everyday life, but when he gets upset about something he wants to act directly and get people talking about it.

“When I understood the range of the assaults against homosexuals in Russia, I just felt that I had to do something. Rebecca and Fiona is very political and for a long time we discussed that we wanted to do something for the people affected in Russia. Initially we wanted to travel to Russia in some sort of protest – but then we thought we could raise more awareness of the question in Sweden”

And so the idea was born of street-inspired t-shirts with political messages and “Faggot Apparel “. A collaboration with the Swedish company T- shirtbar was established and several guest designers got involved to design t-shirts.

“The DJ duo Rebecca & Fiona has designed a shirt with a crossed-out swastika. Niotillfem has designed a shirt with the quote “Putin you can’t sit with us” inspired by the movie Mean Girls – which is genius”

Do you have any future dream for this project?
“Initialy the idea was that I would use my knowledge about fashion and my contacts to create fashionable clothing that stands up for those who are struggling. But now I feel that scince the respons was so good the project must continue. It could be a clothing line that always will have a charitable purpose. There are so many things that need to be addressed.”

Civil Rights Defenders are very excited about the attention the t-shirts has brought to the situation in Russia and their work in the region and are impressed by Tommie X drive and initiative.

“It’s really great. Many people are genuinely interested in human rights and become upset over injustice and oppression. It’s easy to feel dejected and think that you can’t make any difference. But even if you can’t do everything everyone can still contribute with something. Tommie X has talken something he is good at used it for this cause. He has a vast network of fashion and club circuits and it is great that our work reaches out to new groups in this way, says Natasha Jevtic Esbjörnson, Head of Communications at Civil Rights Defenders . The same goes for other artists like Loreen , Ane Brun and many others in the network Art Makes a Stand”
