Improved media situation in Moldova
The situation of press in Moldova has improved in the past year, as a positive effect of a general improvement of the legal and political situation in the country. That is the conclusion of the media report that we are publishing together with our partner Independent Journalism Centre.
The country has developed a more diverse media landscape and the state of the press has grown stronger through improved media laws. Seven newspapers, two radio stations and five online publications were established in 2011. According to the report, the regulatory authority for television appears to be less corrupt.
The media reports from the two presidential elections in 2011, seemed to be more balanced than during the presidential election in Transnistria the same year. Independent media were allowed to work freely but the situation for independent media is still very tough. Journalists are denied access to public events and subjected to abuse.
