Ten Conditions of Love caused strong protests when it was going to be showed on the Melbourne film festival earlier this year. The Chinese government hold Rebiya Kadeer responsible for the violence between Uighurs and Han Chinese in East Turkestan (Xinjiang region in China) in July 2009, riots that left about 200 people dead.
Rebiya Kadeer is the most prominent human rights defender and leader of the Uighur people. Since a couple of years she lives and works in the United States. Read more about Rebiya Kadeers background.
